There is no initial fee to enter the DV Program. The U.S. Government employs no outside consultants or private services to operate the DV program. Any intermediaries or others who offer assistance to prepare an application do so without the authority or consent of the U.S. Government. Who is eligible to participate?Eligibility to apply for this program is determined by a person's place of birth, not citizenship or residence. If you were born in an ineligible country, but your spouse was not, you can claim your spouse's country of birth instead of your own, provided you and your spouse will immigrate to the United States together. Both you and your spouse can submit individual entries. If you were born in a country where neither parent was born or residing at the time, you may be able to claim one of their countries of birth. When may I file an entry for the DV-2009 program?Entries for the DV-2009 Program will be accepted electronically from October 3, 2007 through Sunday, December 2. Applicants can access the electronic diversity visa entry form at www.dvlottery.state.gov . Paper entries are not accepted. How do I know if I've been selected?Applicants will be selected at random by computer. Those selected will be notified by mail between May and July 2008 and will be provided further instructions including information on fees connected with immigration to the U.S. Only successful registrants will be notified. U.S. embassies and consulates will not be able to provide a list of successful applicants. When will I get my visa?Being selected as a winner in the program does not automatically guarantee being issued a visa because the number of applicants selected is greater than the number of immigrant visas available. We will begin processing DV-2009 immigrant visas in October 2008. Processing must be completed and visas issued to all eligible family members on or before September 30, 2009. Applicants must meet all eligibility requirements under U.S. law in order to be issued visas. |
