Accompanied by Amb. Christopher Hill, a group of Polish pilots had the chance to fly in one of three F-16s that landed in Minsk Mazowiecki on May 13 as part of a joint Polish-American flight ‘exchange.’ While Polish pilots were able to test the F-16 planes, their American counterparts flew MIG-29 fighters.

The American team was led by General Robert Foglesong, commander of both U.S. Air Forces in Europe and Allied Air Forces North. Gen. Foglesong, who also flew one of the MIG-29s, praised the professionalism of the Polish pilots.

Under an agreement signed with the U.S. and F-16 manufacturer Lockheed Martin, Poland is buying 48 multi-role F-16 planes. Polish military officials say the F-16 fighters will mean a big leap in technology and quality for Poland’s Armed Forces.
