Ambassador Ashe hosted four state presidents from the American Farm Bureau Federation on May 30. The delegation briefed the Ambassador on the organization and its functions, and Ambassador Ashe talked about current bilateral issues. The group included Larry Wooten, President, North Carolina Farm Bureau, and delegation leader; Steve Kouplen, President, Oklahoma Farm Bureau; Steve Baccus, President, Kansas Farm Bureau; Kenneth Dierschke, President, Texas Farm Bureau; and Ron Gaskill, Director, Congressional Relations for International Trade, American Farm Bureau Federation. The purpose of Farm Bureau is to make the business of farming more profitable, and the community a better place to live.
In 1919, a small group of farmers from 30 states gathered in Chicago and founded the American Farm Bureau Federation. The Farm Bureau soon became the voice of agriculture at the national level. Farm Bureau provides an organization in which members may secure the benefits of unified efforts in a way which could never be accomplished through individual effort. Farm Bureau is local, county, state, national and international in its scope and influence.
