Week-long Training on Investigating Financial Fraud, Piracy, Hacking
Agents from the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) are working with the Polish National Police this week to conduct a seminar in fighting cybercrime. The agents are sharing knowledge and techniques in the areas of financial fraud, Internet pornography, piracy of intellectual property (video, music, etc.), and computer hacking, among others.
“Cybercrime is one of the top priorities for the FBI and, as a result, we are very pleased to be working with the Polish police on this issue. We think it’s prudent for us to be able to share our knowledge with our international law enforcement partners to combat high-technology crimes worldwide,” said Henri Sumyk of the Embassy’s Legal Attaché office, which represents the FBI in Poland.
Some three-dozen officers, selected by the Polish National Police, are attending the workshop being conducted at the International Police Training Center in Legionowo. Various training sessions are organized and funded by the FBI each year in Poland.
This workshop follows last week’s arrest of more than 100 computer hackers from across Poland, who had been breaking into computer systems worldwide and pirating hundreds of millions of dollars in music, games and films. The bust was the result of a year-long cooperative investigation by Polish and U.S. law enforcement agencies.
