General Bryan D. Brown, the Commander of U.S. Special Operations Command (USSOCOM), visited Poland from August 18-20, 2005. USSOCOM is one of eight U.S. military unified commands. SOCOM trains and equips special operations forces and leads/executes global operations against terrorist networks. General Brown visited with Polish Special Forces units in Gdynia, Lubliniec, and Pstraze. He also participated in a parachute jumping exercise with Polish Special Forces and U.S. Navy SEALS in Gdynia. In addition to these field activities, General Brown met with senior Polish military leadership at both the Ministry of Defense and the General Staff in Warsaw. The purpose of the USSOCOM visit was to foster increased contacts between senior military leaders and enhance interoperability between Polish and U.S. Special Operations Forces. Polish Special Forces have been an integral partner with the U.S. in the war on terrorism and in Operation IRAQI FREEDOM.
