Statement by President Bush on Holocaust Remembrance Day
26 January 2006I send greetings to those observing the International Day of Commemoration in memory of the victims of the Holocaust.
The Holocaust will forever remind us of the universal principle that evil must be opposed wherever it exists. The liberation of the Auschwitz concentration camp on January 27, 1945, made the world fully aware of the horrors of the Holocaust and the deliberateness with which evil destroyed millions of innocent victims. Today, the international community honors the victims of the Holocaust by condemning the cruelty of the guilty, celebrating the courage of those who fought against this injustice, and remembering the power of good to overcome evil.
I appreciate all those observing this important day of commemoration for your efforts to share the stories and lessons of the Holocaust with new generations. With understanding and respect for the rights and dignity of every human being, we can build a better world for people everywhere.
Laura and I send our best wishes. May God bless you and may we always remember.
