Chargé Hillas Attends Concert of Ida Haendel in Chełm

Deputy Chief of Mission Kenneth Hillas, in his capacity as Chargé d’ Affaires during Ambassador Ashe’s travel abroad, attended a concert for which Ambassador Victor Ashe and Israeli Ambassador David Peleg were honorary patrons. The embassy supported the 86-year-old Haendel’s emotional return to her home town with a grant to Chełm’s Miasteczko Foundation, which initiated and organized the concert. Currently residing in Florida, Haendel played in the town of her birth for the first time since she was a five-year-old prodigy. CAO James Wolfe also attended.
