The newly-formed jazz quartet “U4” kicked off its tour of Poland with a private concert at the residence of U.S. Ambassador to Poland Victor Ashe and Mrs. Joan Ashe on the evening of November 21. Guests included Polish government officials, members of the Diplomatic Corps, and friends of the Embassy from Poland’s cultural and academic scene, among others. The quartet consists of Michael Brown (saxophone), Tony Jones (Bass), Victor Floyd Campbell (drums), and Uraz Kivaner (piano). Brown, Jones, and Campbell have played with many jazz and R&B greats. Polish singer Aga Zaryan joined the band for a rendition of “Bye Bye Blackbird” to close out the evening for the enthusiastic audience. Earlier November 21 they played for and spoke with music students at the Chopin High School in Warsaw. The band is playing at Warsaw’s Tygmont at 20:30 November 22 and 23 before embarking on a ten-performance tour of Poland that will take them to Gdynia, Rzeszów, Kraków, Zakopane, Szczecin, and other cities. Their tour and appearance at the Chopin school are supported by the U.S. Embassy.
