On Thursday August 4th, Ambassador Ashe met with a group of students from the John Paul II institute of the Catholic University of America.

The students are on a two week tour of Poland as a prelude to their participation in World Youth Day on August 16th in Cologne, Germany.

The Ambassador gave the group a tour of his office and offered an overview of significant elements of Polish history, and a short briefing on Polish/American relations.

He also answered questions from the students about the historical roles both of the Church and of Pope John Paul II in the demise of communism in Poland, and in the building of a new, democratic society over the past fifteen years.
