U.S. Marines of MSG DET Warsaw join the kids from the Radosc Orphanage
|
The U.S. Marine Corps Detachment posted at the U.S. Embassy has raised $1800 for the children at the Radosc Orphanage in the Marines' 2004 Run/Walk-a-thon. The five-kilometer run/walk was held May 15 in Powsin.
This year's winners included Andrew McBride (winning runner), Heidi Applegate (winning walker) and Major Don Thieme (winning family). Race participants paid PLN 100 as an entrance fee, which went directly to the orphanage. The Marines also sold tickets for a chance to win prizes such as hotel stays, restaurant meals, movie tickets, and T-shirts.
Founded in 1933, the Radosc Orphanage is home to about 100 children, some as young as two years old. Despite the care and attention that the children get there, guaranteeing even one child the basic necessities is financially challenging. The money that the U.S. Marines raised will go a long way toward meeting that goal.
Sponsors for the event included: Pepsi, McDonald’s, the Sheraton Hotel, the Intercontinental Hotel, Lynka, Silverscreen Theater, the Boathouse Restaurant, and the Tortilla Factory.
