Ambassador Ashe greeted the eighty-member audience that attended the Embassy’s “Muslim Life in America” program on December 8 by noting that “Islam is a peaceful religion and people who practice the Islamic faith have made great contributions to our nation and the world.” The program explained the extraordinary range and richness of Muslim life to the audience, which was made up of high school students, professors, and members of the Center for Citizenship Education – an NGO that promotes civic education and religious tolerance in Poland. Assistant Cultural Affairs Officer, Bix Aliu, spoke about American Muslim communities, Islamic–American organizations and their activities, and the demographics of the Muslim community in the US. Guest speakers included Professor Janusz Danecki and Agata Skowron-Nalborczyk of the Department of Islamic Studies at the University of Warsaw, and the Deputy Chair of Poland’s Council of Muftis, Mr. Jusuf Konopacki.
