Counter Terrorism Fellowship Program (CTFP)

Overseen by the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Special Operations/Low-Intensity Conflict, the CTFP provides funding to educate and train experts and government officials involved in combating terrorism. The first CTFP-funded event in Poland was held in September 2004 and led to the formation of the U.S.-Poland Joint Counterterrorism Working Group in April 2005 under the auspices of the U.S. Ambassador and the Polish Interior Minister.

Among the activities sponsored by the ODC under the CTFP are the following:

- bio-terrorism defense workshop by the U.S. National Defense University in collaboration with Poland’s Interior Ministry (April 2005);

- Polish participation in training courses in the U.S. and regional seminars in Hungary, Slovakia, Latvia, and other countries on comprehensive response to terrorism;

- training workshop in September 2006 by the U.S. Defense Institute for Medical Operations on countering the psychology of terrorism, in collaboration with Poland’s Military Institute of Health Services (WIM), a premiere teaching hospital that treats Polish soldiers wounded in Iraq;

- training seminar on “Special Operations in Combating Terrorism” in November 2007 by the U.S. Naval Postgraduate School and the Joint Special Operations University in collaboration with Poland’s National Defense Academy.
