On the invitation of the Polish Land Forces, Sergeant Major of the Army Kenneth O. Preston visited the Conference of European Armies – Non-Commissioned Officers (CEANCO) in Łagów, Poland from 12 to 14 May, during which time he provided an address on the roles and responsibilities of the non-commissioned officer (NCO) on today's battlefields.  The conference provided the opportunity for the senior NCO's of 39 different nations to share ideas and experiences on the development and transformation of the NCO Corps of their respective militaries.  The U.S. Army considers its NCOs to be its backbone, as they are charged with the challenging job of turning the visions of the officers into reality."
