On February 13th U.S. Ambassador to Poland Victor Ashe had the privilege of awarding two Polish officers with American honors. Major General Waldemar Skrzypczak, Polish Army, was awarded the Legion of Merit for exceptionally meritorious service as the Commander of the Multi-National Division Center South in Iraq from February 2005 to July 2005. The Legion of Merit, presented at the historic Cytadela in the presence of Polish Land Forces Commander Lieutenant General Edward Pietrzyk and U.S. Brigadier General David Perkins, is among the highest U.S. military awards that can be presented to a non-U.S. military official. Captain Krzysztof Polakowski of the Polish Navy was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal for exceptional efforts from 30 July 1997 to 30 July 2004 in helping Poland launch its military transformation program.
