High School Students from Swietokrzyskie Province Meet America at the Embassy.
A group of 45 high school students from the Vocational High School Complex in Konskie (Swietokrzyskie Province) visited the Embassy on October 28 for presentations by the Embassy’s Consular Officers about American culture, traditions, sports, and history.  Cultural Attaché Chuck Ashley welcomed the students to the Embassy and encouraged them to experience the United States firsthand as a tourist, through a student exchange program, or on the Summer Work and Travel program [insert link to SWT information on Embassy web site]. Vice Consul Thomas Zia spoke to the group about American sports icons and how sports have helped break down social barriers facing African-Americans and women. Vice Consul Elizabeth Blumenthal described to the group how Thanksgiving Day is celebrated in the U.S. and spoke about the historical background, traditions, meals, and customs related to this quintessential holiday. Vice Consul Candace Faber showcased the ongoing celebration of the 90th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the U.S. and Poland.  She gave the group snapshots of the key people and events taking place in our two countries since Poland regained its independence in 1919.(more) (more photos)


Meet America Program for U.S. and Canadian guests.
On June 30, PAS organized special Meet America Program briefings for a group of 30 U.S. and Canadian students, teachers, NGO activists, journalists and business representatives who visited Poland at the invitation of the Polish Senate within the School of Leaders Association pilot program "School of Polish-Amercan leaders". The guests are members of Polish Diaspora who participated in workshops on issues of bilateral interest with their Canadian and Polish counterparts. (more) (more photos)


Members of American Studies Club from Lodz at Meet America Program. Members of American Studies Club of Lodz University visited the U.S. Embassy on May 15, 2009 for a Meet America Program to listen to the Deputy Chief of Mission and the Embassy Press Attaché. The Deputy Chief of Mission spoke to the students interested in the U.S. about the role of Poland in the U.S. intervention in Iraq and Afghanistan as well as the U.S. mission to combat terrorism worldwide. Meet America Program for the students of International Relations.PAS held another successful Meet America Program in the U.S. Embassy on April 20, 2009. The American officers from Cultural, Political and Consular sections spoke to a group of 10 Polish students, members of International Relations Students Association of the Jagiellonian University Krakow. The students visited the Embassy to learn more about U.S. foreign policy, U.S. diplomacy and foreign service as well as consular issues. (more)


The Embassy hosts middle-school students from Kalisz. On March 17, 2009 the U.S. Embassy hosted 25 middle-school students from Kalisz (Wielkopolskie Province) at a Meet America Event. The group visited the Embassy with their teachers to learn more about  studying opportunities in the U.S., Polish-American military cooperation and traveling opportunities in the U.S. Welcomed to the Embassy by Cultural Attaché Chuck Ashley, the students were then greeted by the U.S. Ambassador to Poland Victor Ashe who also spoke to the group about the history of Polish-American diplomatic relations. The U.S. Embassy's Public Affairs Officer, Edward Kulakowski, met with a group of forty-seven students from Gymnasium Number 1 in Kutno as a part of the Meet America Program on January 30, 2008.  Kulakowski greeted the group and briefed them about the long history of relations between the United States and Poland and that the year 2009 will mark the 90th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries and the 50th anniversary of the Fulbright Commission in Poland. Nowa Wieś Students Discuss U.S. History, Sports and Entertainment at the Embassy. U.S. Ambassador to Poland Victor Ashe welcomed to the Embassy on October 25 a group of high-school students from Nowa Wieś to meet and talk with a number of U.S. diplomats as part of the Embassy's Meet America program.  The Ambassador spoke about the history of U.S.-Polish relations and answered questions on current issues in U.S.-Polish political relations.  Assistant Cultural Attaché Hilary Renner spoke about famous Poles who contributed to American history and culture, focusing on Kazimierz Pulaski and his role in the American Revolutionary War. Young Diplomats Meet U.S. Diplomats at the Embassy.Thirty-five members of the Young Diplomats Association at Warsaw University visited the U.S. Embassy to meet with U.S. diplomats and ask questions about international relations, current political issues, visa policy and U.S.-EU economic relations.  U.S. Ambassador to Poland Victor Ashe welcomed the group to the Embassy on October 18, where they had an opportunity to listen to Embassy diplomats on a wide variety of issues.  Political Officer John Gorkowski outlined the current U.S.-Polish political situation to the group, Economic Counselor Richard Rorvig spoke on the state of the U.S. economy in the context of U.S.-Polish ties and Consular Officer Jared Banks briefed the students on U.S. immigration and visa policy. Sandomierz Students Learn About Freedom of the Press. The U.S. Embassy hosted a student group from Sandomierz in a Meet America Program on October 18, 2007.  The group of forty-eight students from Teacher Training College in Sandomierz visited the Embassy to learn about U.S. press and legal issues, and Consular Section activities and visa issues.  U.S. Ambassador to Poland Victor Ashe welcomed the group, which asked a lot of questions about U.S.-Polish diplomatic relations and what it entails to be the U.S. Ambassador to Poland.  Press Attachè Andrew Schilling introduced to the group the U.S. ideas about freedom of the press and gave examples from U.S. press history. Przypisowka Elementary School Children Meet America.
The U.S. Embassy welcomed 50 elementary students from Przypisowka in Lubelskie Voivodship on August 21, when they attended a "Meet America" event at the Chancery.  The kids from Przypisowka are the youngest to have ever participated in this program.  Deputy Chief of Mission Kenneth Hillas opened the event with a warm welcome and spoke to the children generally about the importance of education, encouraging them to continue to study English and learn about America.  Political Officer David van Cleve then addressed the similarities and differences between U.S. and Polish culture and values, and Sergeant Chris Mason from the Embassy Marine Detachment presented a slide show on U.S. elementary, middle-school, and high-school education.  Assistant Cultural Attaché Hilary Renner concluded the event by reading three stories in English using “big books,” which exposed the children to an innovative method of learning English through stories and rhymes.  The students are part of the “NIDA” Development Foundation’s “English without Barriers” project which offers children from rural areas equal educational opportunities by improving their English language skills. Wroclaw University Students Meet America.
On December 8, a group of Polish students from the Institute of International Studies at Wroclaw University visited the U.S. Embassy in Warsaw to learn about U.S. international relations and policies. U.S. Ambassador to Poland Victor Ashe greeted the students and described the activities of the U.S. diplomatic mission in Poland. Political Counselor Mary Curtin described the nature of political cooperation between the United States and Poland, and answered questions on the U.S. perception of the growing economic and military power of China as well as U.S. relations with Russia. Major Kenneth Ribble from the Embassy’s Office of Defense Cooperation spoke about U.S.-Polish military relations and answered questions on the significance of NATO in U.S. foreign policy and the involvement of Polish troops in the war in Iraq. Assistant Cultural Affairs Officer Hilary Renner briefed the students on educational and cultural exchange opportunities in the U.S. and described the various programs offered by the Embassy’s Cultural Section(more)


Collegium Gostomianum Students from Sandomierz Meet America.
As part of Meet America program, two groups of high schools students from Collegium Gostomianum in Sandomierz visited the Embassy on October 20 and October 24.(more)


Wieczfnia Koscielna Students Meet America.
On August 1, as part of the Embassy’s “Meet America” program, over 30 students from the town of Wieczfnia Koscielna (north-west of Warsaw) visited the Embassy to learn more about diplomats’work and relations between the United States and Poland.(more)


Ambassador Ashe with Youth for English Society

Ambassador meets Włodawa Youth English Society.
As part of the Embassy’s “Meet America” program, U.S Ambassador to Poland Victor Ashe met with a group from the “Youth for English” society in Włodawa on September 23, 2005. The Ambassador described the structure of the U.S. Embassy, commented on the U.S./Polish bilateral relationship, and entertained questions fielded from the 50 high school students.(more)


Ambassador Ashe with students from Wloclawek

High School Students from Wloclawek Meet America.
A group of 31 high school students from Wloclawek, Poland visited the U.S. Embassy in Warsaw on November 20 for a Meet America presentation led by U.S. Ambassador to Poland Victor Ashe. Ambassador Ashe spoke about the importance of enhancing U.S.-Polish relations through Embassy programs such as Meet America. Economic Officer Holly Waeger Monster spoke about the historical origin of Thanksgiving and how Americans currently celebrate the holiday. Consular Officer Justin Heung presented the concept of an American family, providing statistics and common views about modern American families. Assistant Cultural Affairs Officer Hilary Renner spoke about educational opportunities in the U.S. and the Summer Work and Travel program as an opportunity for college students to improve English language skills and learn about U.S. society and culture through firsthand experience.(more)


Ambassador Ashe with members of the Polish Diplomatic Academy

Ambassador Ashe Meets Future Polish Diplomats.
Ambassador to Poland, Victor Ashe met with future diplomats from the Polish Diplomatic Academy on June 6, as part of a special Meet America program. The students are currently completing their training in Warsaw and will soon be posted throughout the world as part of Poland’s diplomatic corps. Ambassador Ashe spoke to the students engaging them in a dialogue about US/Polish relations. This Meet America program gave these future Polish diplomats special insight into the functioning of the US Embassy and the role of U.S. diplomats.(more)


Students from Gorzkowice

Gorzkowice Students Meet America.
High-school students from Gorzkowice, a small town located south-west of Warsaw, visited the Embassy under the Meet America program on March 24. Ambassador to Poland, Victor Ashe, greeted the group and spoke about the close historical ties between the US and Poland. After the Ambassador spoke, Marine Guard Jamie Cody described her life in the U.S. Armed Forces, Fulbright Educational Advisor Ola Augustyniak gave a presentation on “How to Study in the US,” and Information Resource Center Director Jurek Roguski described the services of the center for the general public. In appreciation for the visit, the students performed “If I had a Hammer” for the Ambassador at the end of the program.(more)


Ambassador Ashe with students from Łodz University

Ambassador Ashe greets students from Łodz.
Students from the Academy of International Relations of Łodz University visited the Embassy on February 27 as part of the Embassy’s Meet America Program. Ambassador Ashe greeted the students, gave them a tour of his office, and explained his work and the objectives of the mission in general. Vice Consul Holly Monster gave the group a tour of the consular section, described the application and fingerprint processes and the Summer Work and Travel Program. Political Military Affairs Officer David Morris spoke about the US/Polish bilateral relationship and held a question and answer session with the students.(more)


Ambassador Ashe greeted high school students from the town of Garnek.
On October 20, as part of the Embassy’s “Meet America” program, Ambassador Ashe greeted over 50 high school students from the town of Garnek, in Poland’s Silesia (Śląskie) Province and noted the historically important bilateral relationship between the two countries. In response to the students’ interests in the effects of US culture and media on youth, Embassy representatives spoke about US pop culture, radio stations and media outlets in the US, and the importance of voluntarism.(more)
