Meet America Program in the U.S. Embassy Warsaw again responded to Polish students’ interests in the U.S. The event on January 20 hosted a group of students from Jan Kochanowski University in Kielce who visited the Embassy for exchange of opinions with American diplomat speakers on the U.S. health care system, the immigration experience and military policy. Economic Officer Kimberly Valdes-Dapena provided the group with a comprehensive briefing on current health care policy and reform in the context of previous social reforms. She also took the students’ questions on the related issues. Vice-Consul Thomas Zia shared with the students his personal immigration experience while speaking about immigrants in the U.S. and how they adapt to American conditions, society and culture. Political Officer Duncan Walker answered students’ numerous questions about Missile Defense system in Europe, F16 offset, and other questions regarding the deployment of U.S. military bases around the world.
Deputy Cultural Attaché Jeanne Briganti handed in the group’s professor the books on U.S. illustrated history and Polish-American diplomatic relations for the university library so the students have the resources they can refer to upon their return to university.
The students study English and American topics at their university and they appreciated the Meet America event the Embassy organized for them because it expanded their knowledge about the U.S. as well as provided them with an opportunity to learn from our diplomats who deal with the issues.
