I would like to apply for a training/internship relating to my course of studies. What type of a visa is required? I have a visitor visa. Does being granted a visa for training/internship mean that my visitor visa will be annulled? I appreciate your response.

In order to do an internship in the U.S. you will need an H, L or J visa. You cannot do an internship in the U.S. on a B1/B2 visitor’s visa. The sponsoring employer or organization in the U.S. will need to file a petition with the U.S. Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Services for the correct visa. Please see www.uscis.gov for more information. If you are issued an H, L or J visa to participate in an internship, your B1/B2 visa will not be cancelled and you may use it for future tourist travel.
