Secretary of State Colin Powell, head of the Presidential delegation for the commemoration of the 60th anniversary of the Warsaw Uprising, met with Polish leaders today and vowed, "Poland will never be alone again, as it was 60 years ago."
At a news conference with Foreign Minister Cimoszewicz, Sec. Powell said, "The United States will always be with Poland to help Poland move down the path that it has chosen, to make sure we do everything possible to enhance democracy in this country, to assist Poles with economic development, and to express our admiration for the spirit that kept freedom alive during those terrible days of World War II and in the days that followed, the days of the Cold War."
Sec. Powell noted how Poland remains committed to the mission in Iraq. He emphasized that Poles have been helping build the country, supporting "the kinds of values that are now so well grounded here in Poland."
