This exhibition of 58 paintings presents a unique aspect of American art for the first time in Poland.
California
impressionism, which flourished from about 1890-1930, combines European
technique and the majesty of the western American landscape. The result
is an exhibit of spectacular canvases, suffused with light, brought
together by the Irvine Museum from its own and private collections. The
influence of French impressionism shows clearly in the style, but the
themes of the paintings are American, featuring the mountains, valleys,
beaches and gardens of southern California.
The principal organizers of the exhibition are the International Cultural Centre and the U.S. Consulate General in Krakow.
