Embassy Supports Warsaw Jewish Film Festival
11 May 2006Counselor for Public Affairs Edward Kulakowski announced that the U.S. Embassy is supporting the Warsaw Jewish Film Festival which runs from May 11-16, 2006. During each day of the festival, the organizers, Jewish Motifs, celebrate the artists and films of a different country, and May 12th is American Day culminating in an evening reception, hosted by Deputy Chief of Mission, Kenneth Hillas.
The following is a list of the six American films participating in the festival:
Dancing with Torah, Documentary, Robert O. Curry, A twelve year old boy raises funds to bring a Holocaust Torah from Horovice in the Czech Republic to the Holocaust Center in Dallas;
Backseat Bingo, Animated Short Film, Liz Blazer, A story of a senior citizen romance;
Tel Aviv, Film, Richard Goldgewicht, Tel Aviv is the tale of an American Jewish businessman stranded in the Israeli desert who gets rescued by three Arab Palestinians;
Another Road Home, Documentary, Danae Elon, The story of a young Jewish woman’s search for the Palestinian man her parents had hired to take care of her in Israel during the first 20 years of her life;
Homing, Short Film, Jonah Bleicher, A short film about a suicide bomber who is waiting for the bus;
Apart in the World, Documentary, Mauricio Chernovetzky; Boris Babaev is an Orthodox Jew from Tajikistan who meets a group of young Poles and ritually slaughters an animal to prepare a traditional dish highlighting the tensions between the traditional and modern world.
