On April 4 2006, as part of the Embassy Speakers’ Bureau Program, DCM Kenneth Hillas spoke to a group of about 50 students participating in the Erasmus Program at the Warsaw School of Economics. As part of a European Week sponsored the Erasmus Scholarship Program, Hillas completed a short presentation on transatlantic relations to this group of Polish and foreign students which included a few Americans. He described how the U.S. wants Europe to be an effective partner on the world stage and the importance of the strategic relationship through NATO. He also answered questions on how to help the situation in Belarus, the final status of Kosovo, the question of Hamas leadership in Palestine, the rising powers of India and China, and how to address non-proliferation issues.
This program was an excellent venue for the Embassy Speakers’ Bureau Program to discuss U.S. perspectives on Europe with a group of elite foreign and Polish students. These types of events are essential for Embassy Warsaw as we strive to maintain a positive image of America in Poland.
