Embassy Warsaw attends English Competition

On March 31, Consular Officer Melissa Jarrett participated in the sixth annual English competition at the Ochota movie theater. Students from sixteen high schools performed short theatrical performances and sang about scary superstitions, including presentations on witches, poems about monsters, and an abridged performance of Bram Stoker’s Dracula. The students demonstrated extreme enthusiasm for learning English, and some performed advanced theatrical pieces that included literary references to Shakespeare and Charles Dickens. The competition encouraged students to use their creativity in learning English. Jarrett made a presentation about fairy tales to the large group of students after their performances.

Embassy Warsaw’s Speakers Bureau provides a venue for sharing information on US society and values with an audience that would not otherwise have direct contact with US officials. By speaking to high-school students, Embassy Warsaw is able to reach a segment of the population important in creating a positive image of America abroad.
