Embassy Warsaw's Anticorruption Speakers Bureau Program Travels to Nowa Huta

On March 9, 2006, Economic Officer, Mike Katula, visited Economic High School #2 in Nowa Huta to learn about the anti-corruption project which students and the teachers have participated in over the past two years.  Katula first listened to a presentation by the students detailing their project which included creating a series of anti-corruption posters and conducting a public opinion poll in a nearby town that gauged awareness of the problem in the Polish context.  Following the students’ presentation, Katula spoke in Polish about anti-corruption efforts in the United States, his personal experiences, and answered questions from the approximately 40 students attending.

Embassy Warsaw’s Speakers Bureau provides a venue for sharing information on US society and values and engaging a youth audience that would not otherwise have direct contact with US officials. Hopefully, this anti-corruption speaking program will help initiate further discussion and thought to continuing the students’ local-level anti-corruption projects.
