On February 11, Consular Officer Susanne Kuester judged a knowledge competition on the United States as part of the Embassy Speakers Bureau program. Kuester represented the Embassy at the event held at high school number 20 in Warsaw and participated as a judge on a panel to determine three winners. Coming from several different area high schools, these students who were enthusiastic, energetic, and demonstrated a very positive attitude about the U.S. first participated in a one hour written exam answering a variety of questions about America film, music, history, presidents, holidays, and traditions. The second part of the exam was an oral presentation on a topic of the student’s choice which ranged from the Academy Awards to the Civil War in America. One student even created a web site about Ronald Reagan and the Cold War.
Embassy Warsaw’s Speakers Bureau provides a venue for sharing information on US society and values with an audience that would not otherwise have direct contact with US officials. By participating in this event, the Embassy was able to encourage this type of activity which reinforces understanding of U.S. culture and values.
