On February 5, 2008, Deputy Cultural Attache Hilary Renner spoke to Middle School No. 2 in Lubartow on "U.S. Foreign Assistance in Africa: Current Initiatives and Programs." Renner outlined current programs of the U.S. government's source of aid - the United States Agency for International Development, Millenium Challenge Corporation, and U.S. Presidential Initiatives. Renner discussed four of the main programs for Africa - economic growth and development, humanitarian assistance, health and education, and democracy and governance to a group of forty students and teachers. She also described the security situation in Sudan and Darfur and the current difficulties in administering and coordinating humanitarian assistance for both the U.S. and other donors.
