Political Officer John Gorkowski attended the American Poetry Competition Finals

Political Officer John Gorkowski attended the American Poetry Competition Finals at Poznan High School in Poznan on June 5.  John Gorkowski was impressed by the quality of the students' performances and very happy to see the teachers' lively debate on the distribution of awards - all well deserved. The competition challenge included recitation of selected American poems and participation in various art tasks. During the competition finals Officer Gorkowski presented two contemporary American poets to the audience - Brooks Haxton and C. Dale Young speaking about the American poetry that average Americans read today. As the Embassy granted honorary patronage for the event John Gorkowski presented book prizes and Ambassador's certificates to the competition winners and the participants who received honorable mention. On his way back Officer Gorkowski noted to the event organizers, "This is the best event I've attended during my three years in Poland."
