On November 9th, Joseph Costantino of the U.S. Embassy in Warsaw, spoke at a student workshop at the “ONZ Secondary School” in Bilgoraj in southeastern Poland on the occasion of the 65th Anniversary of the liquidation of the town's Jewish ghetto. The event, designed to raise awareness of Jewish Culture and anti-Semitism, was organized by I.B. Singer’s Cultural Foundation and the Forum for a Dialogue between the Nations. Costantino spoke to seventy students about the history of the American Civil Rights Movement and current tolerance and civil right issues. The teachers and students also expressed interest in opportunities for work and study in the United States, so Costantino offered another brief presentation on how to participate in these programs. In addition to the workshops, the foundation holds a cultural festival in Bilgoraj in June, during which Embassy representatives have participated and were invited to return to see how the foundation is trying to keep the memories and culture of the town's former Jewish residents alive.
