Embassy Warsaw promotes Globe Program in celebration of Earth Day

As part of the Speakers Bureau Program, ACAO Hilary Renner spoke in Nidzica on the GLOBE environmental education program in Poland and on the importance of protecting the environment on April 20, 2007. GLOBE (Global Learning and Observations to Benefit the Environment) is a worldwide hands-on, primary and secondary school-based science and education program which works in 19000 schools and has trained 37,000 teachers. Started in 1996, the GLOBE is celebrating its tenth year in Poland and has programs in 109 countries. At this all-school event, students were celebrating this year’s GLOBE theme “Water is Life” by performing songs and skits, and with an introductory play by preschoolers who were dressed up in costumes as trees, plants, and animals. The “Water is Life” theme was also portrayed in class posters and art projects which decorated the auditorium. After the event, Renner and Cultural Assistant Malgosia Dzielak visited with both the school principal, one of the teachers involved in the GLOBE program in Nidzica, and the newly elected Mayor of Nidzica, who is interested in promoting the program locally as a way to encourage international linkages within the school system.
