On Friday November 30, 2007, Vice Consul Will Webb had the honor of sharing the floor with one of the foremost Joseph Conrad scholars in the world, Professor Zdzislaw Najder, at the "Reading Joseph Conrad at Night" event in Kielce. Professor Najder gave a fascinating presentation to a capacity crowd. Many famous Polish artists, actors, and celebrities then read selections from Conrad and other writers of the sea. Finally, Webb addressed the crowd and discussed the relationship between Conrad's Lord Jim and modern Poland. The night ended with multiple toasts to celebrate the event and the name day of the owner of the Antiquarian Bookshop where the event took place. "It was a great opportunity to discuss one of Poland's greatest writers in a warm and inviting setting", said Vice Consul Webb.
