State and Defense Officials Participate in Strategic Dialogue in Warsaw January 25th

25 January 2006

Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Daniel Fried and Assistant Secretary of Defense for International Security Policy Peter Flory were in Warsaw January 25th to engage their Polish counterparts in the continuing strategic dialogue between the United States and Poland. The U.S.-Polish Strategic Dialogue is a concept that former Deputy Secretary of State Richard Armitage proposed in March, 2004, along the lines of similar dialogues with other major allies, such as the U.K., Japan and Australia. These discussions are designed to be a frank exchange on a variety of topics.

The two attended meetings with Polish Foreign Ministry and Defense experts to discuss a broad range of issues related to the Polish/U.S. strategic relationship including building security capacity, energy security, and bilateral issues.
