Ambassador Ashe toured Warsaw’s Jewish Cemetery with Director Przemyslaw Szpilman on May 12, 2006. He followed that visit with a stop at the church of St. StanisÅ‚aw Kostki and the tomb of Father Popieluszko. “There is great work going on in restoring the Jewish cemetery but much more remains to be done. It is a visit everyone should make to see the history which is represented there,” Ambassador Ashe said.

“Father Popieluszko inspires us all to remember the price of liberty and freedom. It reminds us of the ultimate sacrifice of so many who made Poland a free and democratic nation today.” Ashe added. “I hope freedom loving citizens from nations all over the world visit there.”
