Polish-American Consular Working Group Meets on November 9

10 November 2005

On November 9, the Polish-American Consular Working Group, consisting of representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Administration, the Border Guards and the American Embassy in Warsaw met at the Foreign Ministry. The participants discussed the status of the Visa Roadmap, which resulted from the discussions of Presidents Aleksander Kwasniewski and George Bush last February in Washington. The Roadmap is intended to lead Poland into the group of countries whose citizens can travel to the United States for tourism without obtaining a visa (Visa Waiver Program).

The Polish side expressed pleasure that the American side has eliminated visa violations for Polish citizens prior to 1989.

The American side noted that over the course of last year, the number of visa applications has increased and the number of refusals has decreased. This positive trend can be attributed to the American side taking into consideration the improving economic situation in Poland.

The Polish side noted with pleasure that the conditions for Polish visa applicants at the Embassy in Warsaw and the Consulate General have improved thanks to the efforts of the American diplomatic and consular officials.

Both sides confirmed that the Polish-American Consular Working Group will meet periodically to review steps taken to facilitate the entry of Poland into the group of countries whose citizens can travel to the United States for tourism without obtaining a visa.
