The legendary New York-based Wooster Group will be part of this year’s “Meetings” Festival, at Warsaw’s Dramatyczny Theater October 16 - 20. The Public Affairs Section of the American Embassy will help fund the performance comprised of foreign and domestic contemporary theater.
The Wooster Group creates “work in progress” performances based on classical texts, while at the same time using the most modern video techniques. The end result creates the unprecedented mix of theater tradition and avant-garde conceptual art.
Last year the Wooster Group made a successful appearance with “To You, the Birdie” based on Phedre by Jean Baptiste Racine.
This year’s presentation, “The Poor Theater” directed by Elizabeth LeCompte refers to the famous theory by Jerzy Grotowski. The group makes reference to his Laboratory Theater, as well as to Acropolis by Stanislaw Wyspianski. Theatrical reference is also given to American choreographer and director, William Forsyth.
Some lines within the performance are even spoken in Polish. For further information, please visit the Wooster Group website
