Memorial Wurlitzer Organ Benefit

25 October 2005

On November 10, the Embassy will host a concert at the Warsaw Museum of Science and Technology to celebrate the American Veterans Day Holiday which coincides with Poland’s Dzień Niepodległości, announced Cultural Affairs Attaché, Patrick Lahey. The event is another occasion to recognize Polish/American cooperation in the struggle for freedom and serves to support Warsaw’s American Wurlitzer Organ, the only instrument of its kind in Poland and one of the few in Central and Eastern Europe. Produced in the US in1928 and moved to Poland in 1929, the organ survived World War II in relatively good condition, but fell into disrepair during the communist era. Recently, a group of organ enthusiasts reconditioned it piece by piece.
