Young Learners Resource Center

The American Embassy would like to bring to your attention a new center for teachers of English at the elementary grades – The Young Learners Resource Center.
The Center provides teachers with an opportunity to improve their teaching methodologies and curricula for teaching English to young learners. The collection includes teaching methodology books that can be borrowed or copied, as well as handouts with practical materials for classroom use, including lesson plans.
The Resource Center has a “processing corner” where teachers are able to use the die cut machine or laminator to allow them to prepare their own teaching materials for classroom use. The center enables teachers to work together, exchange ideas and establish a sense of community amongst English teachers of elementary schools.

The center also provides a venue for American speakers, cultural events and workshops for teachers.

All resources are free of charge.

The Young Learners Resource Center is a joint project of the U.S. Embassy in Warsaw and the Mayor’s office of the Warsaw Srodmiescie District.

 New Young Learners Resource Center opens in Lubartow.

Ambassador Victor Ashe and Lubartow Mayor Jerzy Zwolinski officially opened Poland’s newest Young Learners Resource Center (YLRC). The YLRC features a variety of materials for teaching English to students as young as four years old. As the fourth stand-alone YLRC in Poland, the center will fill a gap in current teacher training in Poland and equip educators with the tools they need to teach American English and culture to young students. Funded in  artnership with the City of Lubartow and the local grammar school, the center is supported by a librarian and a methodologist and will soon feature workshops led by the embassy’s visiting English
Language Specialist. The ribbon-cutting ceremony and subsequent interviews with Ambassador Victor Ashe were featured by several television, radio and print media outlets.

Workshops for Teachers of English, April 17 – June 5 

English Language Specialist Margaret Cholodecki-Myers will visit Poland to conduct a series of workshops for teachers of English at the young learners’ level between April 17 and June 5, 2009.  From 2006-2008 Margaret worked in Poland as an English Language Fellow and travelled to Lodz, Warsaw, Nowy Sacz, Opole, Bialystok and Krakow.  As a result of her two-year fellowship, the U.S. embassy has further  developed its English Teaching program and opened seven Young Learners Resource Centers (YLRCs) for teachers of English.  At YLRCs Polish teachers can use and borrow American products like Big Books, die-cut machines, and many other materials created by American publishers that are unavailable on the Polish market.
