Embassy Warsaw supports "English Around the World
On December 16, the Embassy-sponsored Young Learners Resource Center in Warsaw and Elementary School no 1 in Blonie held their awards gala for the “English Around the World” Contest at the US embassy Chancellery. As part of Embassy Warsaw's continuous support for English teaching, the embassy supported the contest for elementary school children aged 7-12 with patronage and donated Frisbees, mouse pads and sweets as prizes. (Private company Pearson Logman also supported the contest, donating MP3 players). Deputy Cultural Attache Candace Faber spoke at the opening and together with the Director of the Young Learners Resource Center encouraged everyone to participate in future contests, which help to increase students’ awareness and provide them with an opportunity to see how much fun it can be to learn English and learn about American culture. Acting Public Affairs Officer James Wolfe welcomed all the honorary guests, students, and teachers, and talked about the embassy’s initiative to open more resource centers like the one in Warsaw in the future, and he stressed the fact that this contest marked the second anniversary of the establishment of the “Young Learners Resource Center” in Warsaw. Faber handed out prizes to the first, second and third place winners. The children and teachers alike were thrilled that the gala took place at the embassy, as for most of them it was their very first visit to any diplomatic mission.
