Embassy Assists American Woman Abducted to Poland

15 October 2007

American and Polish media have reported recently on the close cooperation between U.S. Embassy officials and law enforcement officers from Palm Beach, Florida to locate and return to the U.S. a 93-year old American woman who was brought to Poland against her will and left in a nursing home.  The woman was the apparent victim of financial fraud.  Two people are now in custody in Florida accused of kidnapping, fraud and other crimes in the case.

In commending on the close cooperation of American and Polish authorities on this case, Ambassador Victor Ashe remarked, “Occasionally Americans back home wonder exactly what it is that our embassies do for them overseas. This case is a fine example of the kind of assistance our consular officers and security personnel provide to American citizens if they run into trouble.”
