Preparations for U.S.-Poland Security Assistance Training Underway

On January 18, LTC Chris Charveron, Deputy Chief of U.S. Embassy Warsaw’s Office of Defense Cooperation (ODC), LTC Ray Wojcik, Army Affairs Officer, ODC, and Ms. Magda Szkop, International Military Education and Training (IMET) Specialist, ODC, visited Poland’s National Defense University (NDU). The U.S. Embassy team met with Colonel Stanislaw Zajas, Commandant’s Representative; COL Jan Knetki, Director of NDU’s National Simulation Center, Navy Captain Piotr Urbanski, Division Chief and LTC Jacek Gozdz, Chief, International Liaison Division. The purpose of the visit was to prepare for the largest ever U.S. Security Assistance (SA) Staff Training event to occur in Poland March 12-30, 2007, during which 75 officers from Poland’s Ministry of Defense, General Staff, Operations Command, Special Operations Command, Land Forces, Air Force, Navy, Academies, and other civilian ministries will participate in a 3-week Crisis Decision Making and Staff Officer training course at the NDU. U.S. Ambassador to Poland Victor Ashe will visit the NDU during the training which will be led by U.S. instructors from the Center for Civil-Military Relations (CCMR) at the Naval Postgraduate School (NPS), Monterey, California.
