International Organizations

These visa classifications apply to employees of/representatives of certain international organizations traveling to the U.S. on official business:

G-1 visa is required if you are a member of a permanent mission of a recognized government to an international organization traveling to the United States in pursuance of official duties.

G-2 visa is required if you are a representative of a recognized government temporarily traveling to the United States to attend meetings of a designated international organization.

G-3 visa is required if you are a representative of non-recognized or non-member government temporarily traveling to the United States to attend meetings of a designated international organization.

G-4 visa is required for individual personnel traveling to the United States to take up an appointment at a designated international organization, including the United Nations. Please see  Visit the Department of State Bureau of Consular Affairs website to learn more about G visas.

In addition to required documents applicants applying for G-1/G-4 visas should also submit a supporting letter from the International Organization or the Ministry explaining the purpose of the trip.  It is very important to choose G visa category while filling out an Electronic Application Form DS-160 on line. Applicants for G-1/G-4 visas do not pay the visa application fee.  Please follow step 1-3 instructions on How to Apply for a Visa.

Spouses and Children

If accompanying a G visa holder, the spouse and children should apply for the same classification of G visa.
