Ambassador Feinstein visited Wroclaw on July 13, taking in the sights and sounds of this dynamic city to the south. Wroclaw and Dolnoslaskie (Lower Silesia) Province have become major centers of U.S. investment in recent years, and a number of American companies currently operate facilities there or are making plans to do so, including Whirlpool, Hewlett-Packard and 3M. A hub of higher education in Poland, Wroclaw intends to be in the forefront of Poland’s high-tech and manufacturing sector growth for years to come.
Ambassador Feinstein met with Mayor Rafal Dutkiewicz and other representatives of the Dolnoslaskie Provincial government to learn more about their strategies for attracting U.S. and foreign investment going forward. The Ambassador also visited the offices of Google in Wroclaw and participated in the Google Leadership Forum, during which local employees asked the Ambassador about his leadership style and personal success story.
The Ambassador also learned about the city’s growing cultural institutions. He was given a tour of the White Stork Synagogue, the only local Jewish house of worship to survive World War II and was recently renovated under the leadership of the Bente Kahan Foundation. The Ambassador then viewed the American installation piece “Floodwall” at the National Museum, and took a ride on the DiverCITY “Tolerance Tram” with members of the YA/YA performance group. He also toured the historic Centennial Hall, currently under renovation in anticipation to host the Global Economic Forum in October.
